Institute of Food Laws and Regulation - Neal Fortin, Director
The Institute is dedicated to providing a global perspective on the challenges and opportunities in the international food trade though our Study Abroad Program, Internet Food Law Certificate Program, workshops, lectures and seminars.
 
Institute for Food and Agriculture Standards - Lawrence Busch, Director
IFAS is an interdisciplinary teaching, research and policy analysis institute at Michigan State University. It focuses on the social, economic, political and ethical aspects of grades and standards creation, enforcement and review.
 
Professional Master of Science (ProMS) in Food Safety Program - Julie Funk, Director
The ProMS program is designed to help food safety professionals effectively manage the broad range of information essential to success; learn how to evaluate new and emerging technologies as they arise; address new concerns such as food security, emerging foodborne pathogens, zoonotic disease, or biotechnology; and develop the organizational and leadership skills that will allow you to be more effective, efficient and confident in and ever-changing workplace.
 
MSU Extension Food Safety Area of Expertise Team
Recognizing that the provision of a safe food supply is fundamental to health and well-being, the mission of the Michigan State University Extension Food Safety Area of Expertise Team is to protect the health of the people of Michigan and abroad though the execution of sound research, the delivery or research-based educational programs, and the provision of reliable information to policy makers.
 
Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition - Gale Strasburg, Chair

Our department is home to 36 faculty, 45 graduate students and more than 650 undergraduate majors. Our faculty and staff are active in research to solve contemporary issues in food production, quality and safety, as well as nutrient function and applications to health and chronic disease prevention. We are committed to excellence and the application of knowledge and expertise in classrooms, laboratories and communities.

 
STEC Center
The STEC Center is designed to facilitate research on the Shiga-toxin producing E. coli by providing a standard reference collection of well-characterized strains and central on-line accessible databases.
 
Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering - Ajit K. Srivastava, Chair

Biosystems engineering combines engineering principles with biology to solve problems. They ensure that we have the necessities of life:

  • safe and plentiful food to eat
  • pure water to drink
